Because
Because the rain was coming down so
hard, and because the dog was whining,
and because there was so little time,
she took out the garbage naked.
Because it wasn't a spider bite or
poison oak like the doctor said, and
because she had a double chin,
and because she'd seen, once upon
a time, the inside of a cloud,
she allowed hope in.
Because it was Halloween, and because
the candle was sputtering, and because she
was a mother still, she put a colander
upside down on top of her head.

Because I like rain and dogs and the thought of naked people rushing out their garbage and silver cloud linings being cause enough for hope and candles and mothers and colanders, I like this poem. Thanks.
