Another unexpected synchronistic twist, for me, re: Battlestar Galactica. I finished watching Episode 4 today, and in this episode it was revealed that Mary McDonnell had decided not to do the standard recommended chemo treatment. She told the doctor that her mother had also battled breast cancer, and that she, Mary, had watched her mother "endure" two years of the "gold standard" chemo treatment.
"I am thinking of Camillata," she said to Mr. Wet Blanket Doc.
"There's absolutely no real evidence that that works," he said. "It's all anecdotal, nothing more."
She just gave him her excellent intense stare, and that was that. He said he'd see if he could find any of the stuff floating around out there somewhere in outer space, on one of the few spaceships that hadn't yet been destroyed by the evil Cyons.
I already read a spoiler that revealed that Mary's character dies in the second-to-last episode of the series. She doesn't defeat the breast cancer. But she does manage to stay healthy enough, for long enough to lead humanity to safety or at least the hope of a chance at finding it. I know. Rather a dark ending, it seems.
But not as dark as if she had followed in her mother's footsteps. I'm just sayin'. . . that one tiny scene about the Camillata really moved me. Touched a chord. I will take solace and inspiration from wherever I can find it, even from a TV sci fi show that got cancelled by Hollywood hotshots (or British TV hotshots) who prefer to produce reality shows as horrendous as Bridezillas or the Kardashians or one of those cookie-cutter idiotic survival shows that I refuse, refuse, refuse to EVER watch, EVER. And I mean NEVER EVER.
Well, what was that scene? I think Dr. Wetblanket should be a continuing character. He could be a partner in the same office with Maryann's dentist, Right Wing Wong.
