Continued from yesterday:
I reached for my phone, dialed the number, and got a voice message saying I'd reached Eileen Poole's office and to leave a message if I wanted to make an appointment. So I did. The voice message also gave out an email address for people to respond to, so I decided to send an email as well. Here's what I wrote on Feb. 19th, a few hours before I went to see Dr. Cowan, who confirmed that I had shingles:
Dear Elaine and/or Elaine's Office Assistants,After going back and re-reading parts of Food is Your Best Medicine a few days ago, and after going back and re-reading some of my own old blog postings re: Bieler's Broth, I realized that I have veered too far from some essential nutrition basics (you can see my blog here: My Great Breast Cancer Adventure).
My current "health and healing" path isn't bad -- is in many ways very good -- but I think it needs to be even better. At the moment, I am healing from a mastectomy (three weeks ago), now complicated by some sort of blistery "hives" reaction that is making the recuperation/recovery more difficult. I don't know if this reaction is an allergic reaction. . . or possibly even shingles, but I feel it is related to an overall "weakened" immune system, too much stress, too much toxicity.
I want to lay a more concrete foundation, nutrition-wise, before I move into adding (or revising) more cancer treatments to my ongoing medical protocol, which is mostly alternative (and which has been evolving since I was first diagnosed with BC in August of 2005, when I had a lumpectomy). I have never done chemo or radiation, nor do I plan to.
My brain has been overloaded with too many choices, too many treatment options, too many decisions to be made re: how to best heal. But in the midst of this swirling sea of confusing options, nutrition always rises to the top. And Bieler's Broth is a cornerstone, I suspect, that I abandoned at some point but probably shouldn't have.
So... I am trying to get back on track. Are there phone appointments as well as in-person appointments? I live in San Francisco. More info. about me on my blog.
Many thanks,
Jane Underwood
Oh, dear Jane! I am so glad I checked email (Saturday) before going out with my husband.. it's Eileen's assistant, Robyn, here.
Have long wanted to say 'thank you' for your blog post... for so many people, it has been the only way they've been able to find Eileen. (Eileen has been word of mouth only--or your blog, lol-- for 40 years and does not want a webpage or advertising..
That being said, it is very timely you would write now. Yes, she does 'long distance' consultations (using an emailed/or mailed photograph) ... HOWEVER, of all things, I sent out the announcement below just a few days ago! Though it is booking quickly, there are still appts left and we would work you in somehow anyway!!
Many blessings! (See below)
Robyn, Assistant to Eileen Poole

Jane, Thank you for mentioning Bieler's Broth and the book. Sounds like another resource I should have on hand. I'm really enjoying the book Anti Cancer, A New Way of Life, by David Servan-Schreiber MD. It's an excellent overview of healing/prevention through nutrition. I highly recommend it. Looking forward to hearing how things progress with Eileen.
