I loved getting this email today from Li Miao Lovett and want to pass it on as inspiration for others:
Just wanted to share the good news that my first novel, In the Lap of the Gods, got its start in two of your classes. I took beginning fiction with Junse in 2004, and during the final twenty minutes of the last class, we were prompted to begin a piece we wanted to continue working on. Junse was a great instructor, very encouraging throughout the ten-week class, and after hearing the 400 words I wrote, he said I should keep going with it. Now six years later, I have my novel coming out! And that opening scene I wrote is pretty much intact (two dozen revisions later). It took some work in the intervening years, but I'm so glad to have learned the craft of fiction at the Writing Salon. (Feel free to use this as a testimonial). I heard Junse read at the Sausalito series "Why There Are Words Presents" and told him the news as well.
I also took the crafting the novel class in Berkeley, and wound up workshopping the entire novel with one of my classmates for the next year. So I'm glad for the connections I've made.
I'll be sending out periodic (not so frequent as to drive one crazy) announcements about my book events, which are posted on www.limiaolovett.com under events. The first two chapters are available on my publisher's website: http://www.leapfrogpress.com/available-books/fiction/LapofGods.htm
Thanks for creating the Writing Salon!
